Welcome

Hello! And welcome to the first Early Career Teacher Programme newsletter. We'll be sending these half-termly, keeping you up to date with all things Early Career Teachers.

In this issue we're shining a spotlight on StepLab, reminding you of some important information, and sharing news from the EEF.

Please make a note of the upcoming clinic dates, and make sure your mentors and ECTs are aware of the dates they need to attend (the clinic allocations are on the MyAmbition portal).

Thank you for all you're doing to make our ECTs feel welcome and supported in the profession.

Spotlight on... StepLab

As Induction Coordinators, you'll want to keep track of how your teachers and coaches are doing: are they up to date? what are they learning about? how are you doing as a school? And once you know all this — how do you use that information?

Fortunately StepLab features a Knowledge Base, with helpful videos to get you started on tracking progress, and show you how to use the analysis tools. You can find it here (log in required).

There's also a coaching simulator, where you can work through the steps yourself, so you know what your mentor and teacher should be doing and can support them if they need it. Find it here.

Don't forget to match your teachers with their mentors so they can get started with their learning! Find out how here.

StepLab is a powerful tool for implementing the new induction — have a look around and see how it can work for you.

Don't forget...

  • As well as registering with the Julian Teaching School Hub and Ambition Institute, you need to have registered your ECT(s) on the DfE portal. Participants need to be registered on both, and validated by this double entry process, in order for funding for the programme to be released. You can find a step by step guide here.
  • All participants must be onboarded on the MyAmbition portal in order to access StepLab — please encourage anybody who hasn't done this to make it a priority.
  • If you haven't yet attended our Induction Conference, we are running a collaborative catch-up with the Inspiration Teaching School Hub on Thursday 14 October. You must attend both the morning and afternoon sessions; we will have sent you an invitation if this applies to you.

What's new?

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) have today published their brand-new guidance report on Effective Professional Development. Roger Higgins, Director of the Julian Teaching School Hub, has blogged about the report and what it means for teacher CPD. You can read the post here.

Thoughts from me on the new @EducEndowFoundn new guidance report on Teacher CPD. Written for HTs and CEOs. Written with how little time many have at the moment to read blogs - i.e. short for me! @TheJulianTSH @MelanieRenowden @mrkylebailey https://t.co/EIIb58NYEd https://t.co/oh40s9cGvf
