Welcome

Hello! And welcome to our final newsletter of the academic year. It's been a busy one hasn't it? We'd like to end the year with a massive CONGRATULATIONS to our second cohort of ECTs, their mentors, and tutors, as they celebrate passing their induction - we know how hard everyone has worked, and we hope you all have a relaxing summer.

Looking ahead to September, we will be welcoming Emma Newby to the TSH team as our new Acting Deputy Director, ECT and AB Lead - we've worked with Emma for some time now so it's exciting to be able to add her considerable expertise to our core team.

Read on for updates from the MTPT Project, information about NPQ funding and applications, and much more.

Reminder!

If you've run out of time to register new ECTs for their induction programme before the end of term: don't panic! Everything can be done in September when we come back.

And finally...

We would like to thank you for your continued support of the Julian TSH - we never take it for granted! We hope you have a lovely summer break.

Keep in touch

Focus on... NPQs: what's going on with funding?

The DfE has capped the number of funded NPQ places (including for NPQH, NPQLPM, and NPQ SENCO) at 10,800 in total for the whole of England. Each lead provider therefore had to bid for the number of funded places they wanted to offer, and these places were then allocated by DfE. In turn, each lead provider had to decide how many places to allocate to each delivery partner. These decisions were not easy, and were not taken lightly.

Once the allocated funded places are filled, then schools will need to pay for NPQs even if they are on the funded list linked above.

There is no cap on unfunded (i.e., paid for by the school) places.

What NPQs are offered by the Julian TSH in autumn 2024?

For autumn 2024, the Julian TSH is offering the following NPQs:

  • NPQH - delivered in partnership with TDT
  • NPQSL - delivered in partnership with TDT
  • NPQLL - delivered in partnership with TDT
  • NPQLTD - delivered in partnership with TDT
  • NPQ SENCO - delivered in partnership with Ambition Institute
  • NPQLPM - delivered in partnership with Inspiration TSH, Unity TSH, Angles Maths Hub, and the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT).

How will funded places be allocated?

For the following NPQs, funded places are being allocated on a first-come, first-served basis:

  • NPQH
  • NPQSL
  • NPQLL
  • NPQLTD
  • NPQLPM.

For the NPQ SENCO we have looked at various criteria including whether the applicant is a current SENCO, and unfortunately, all of our allocated places have been filled.

My school is on the funded list but all your places are full? This doesn't seem fair.

We appreciate how frustrating this situation is for applicants and for schools. Unfortunately we have no power to override the decisions taken by DfE.
