Welcome

Hello! And welcome to a jam-packed newsletter, full of reading material to keep you occupied over half term. Although we only came back from the Easter break a few weeks ago we know that schools have been busy with SATs, the start of the formal exams for secondary students, and gearing up for the always-frantic end of the school year. It's so much more impressive then, that our ECTs, mentors, and NPQ participants have remained so dedicated to their programmes, able to stay committed to their own professional development amongst the chaos: we see you, and we salute you.

"368 people from our network have submitted a blog us to publish - we love amplifying these voices, sharing these stories and highlighting this best practice.

Spotlight on... TDT's brand new CPD Leadership Hub

We're sad that we're no longer able to partner with the Teacher Development Trust (TDT) to deliver NPQs (although we're delighted to be able to partner with Ambition Institute!), but we're excited to share their CPD Leadership Hub that launched earlier this month.

The Hub will help leaders build stronger schools through effective professional development.

Well-chosen and effective CPD is linked to greater teacher job satisfaction and improved pupil outcomes. Making good decisions about how time, money and energy are spent is important.

The Teacher Development Trust free hub for CPD Leaders gives schools easy access to the resources needed to improve the way schools plan, implement, and evaluate high-quality CPD.

Inside, you can try out the new reflection tool for CPD Leadership, read key pieces of research and insights, book coaching sessions, and access interactive Online Learning Modules.

PLUS! the inaugural David Monis-Weston lecture is now available to view online via the Hub. Hear from David as he speaks about AI and teacher development. The lecture includes a dive into how teachers learn, a critical overview of various new tools promising to cut down on workloads and help educators improve, and a reflection on where AI truly has promise to enrich and deepen teacher learning.

Focus on... Registering for September

DfE have confirmed that the online service, Manage Training for Early Career Teachers, will open for registrations over the next month: schools will be emailed inviting them to register their ECTs and mentors between 16-30 June.

As a reminder, here is the process for preparing for induction:

  1. Let your ECTE programme provider know that you wish to register with them – they will need to contact DfE and let them know.
  2. Choose your Appropriate Body (AB) and let them know that you wish to register with them. If you wish to join the Julian TSH AB, please contact us to request a service level agreement.
  3. Identify your induction tutor and make sure they have access to the DfE online service, Manage Training for Early Career Teachers.
  4. Register your ECT(s) and their mentor(s) on Manage Training for Early Career Teachers. Your school’s induction tutor should do this; they will be asked to specify your chosen AB and your chosen ECTE training programme.
  5. When your chosen AB confirms you can do so, register your ECT(s) on ECT Manager. Induction cannot begin until you have done this, and your AB has authorised the registration.
  6. Your chosen ECTE training provider will receive the information that you have entered on Manage Training for Early Career Teachers and will send you an email with next steps.

Spotlight on... what's coming up in June

Two important dates for schools in June:

  • Schools of Sanctuary Day of Welcome (13 June): an annual event in schools that promotes solidarity and understanding for people seeking sanctuary, offering free resources and activities to support Refugee Week. This year, VNET are supporting the events that kickstart the day. Sign up to receive teaching and learning resources; access to free live events; and refugee education support. Find out more.
  • School Diversity Week (23-27 June): an annual event organised by the charity Just Like Us, aimed at promoting LGBT+ equality and inclusivity in primary and secondary schools. You can find out more about the week, and access classroom resources, here.

Focus on... Examiner/moderator recruitment

Passionate about education? Make a difference as an examiner/moderator – earn, learn, and leave your mark! Here's why you might want to consider becoming an examiner or moderator:

  • Make a difference. As an examiner or moderator, you play a vital role in shaping the future of education by ensuring fairness and accuracy in assessments.
  • Earn extra income. Supplement your income with competitive pay rates for each assessment completed. Plus, gain valuable experience that can enhance your CV and career prospects.
  • Flexible working. Enjoy the flexibility of setting your own schedule and working from the comfort of your own home. Perfect for teachers, academics, or professionals looking for part-time or seasonal work.
  • Professional Development. Enhance your skills and knowledge in your subject area through comprehensive training and ongoing support from our experienced team.
