Welcome to the Julian Teaching School Hub teacher induction update for Induction Tutors and Headteachers.

This term's assessment point reports will be available to complete via ECT Manager on 24 June, and are due by 8 July - as ever, we really appreciate your effort in getting these reports completed by the deadline. You'll find guidance on writing these reports below.

Read on for the latest in our "ask an AB" series (please share this with your ECTs as needed); a reminder of how to register your September 2025 starters; and a super-useful blog on the DfE's new reading guidance.

As ever, we're so grateful for everything you do to support our ECTs and their mentors. Thank you, and happy Pride!

Focus on... Assessment reports

Best practice tips:

  • Start formal assessments as soon as they are available (24/06/25 in most cases) and after you have completed your half-termly observation.
  • Seek input from the mentor – they see the ECT more.
  • Reference a diverse range of evidence sources (do not rely solely on lesson observations).
  • Keep to WWW in the main body of the formal assessment report and keep EBI for the Areas for Development section.
  • A review meeting to be held with ECT to discuss the content of the report and update the Action Plan as relevant (year 1).
  • Encourage your ECT to comment when they sign.

Spotlight on... Registering your participants for September 2025 in six easy steps

  1. Let your ECTE programme provider know that you wish to register with them – they will need to contact DfE and let them know.
  2. Choose your Appropriate Body (AB) and let them know that you wish to register with them. If you wish to join the Julian TSH AB, please contact us to request a service level agreement.
  3. Identify your induction tutor and make sure they have access to the DfE online service, Manage Training for Early Career Teachers.
  4. Register your ECT(s) and their mentor(s) on Manage Training for Early Career Teachers. Your school’s induction tutor should do this; they will be asked to specify your chosen AB and your chosen ECTE training programme.
  5. When your chosen AB confirms you can do so, register your ECT(s) on ECT Manager. Induction cannot begin until you have done this, and your AB has authorised the registration.
  6. Your chosen ECTE training provider will receive the information that you have entered on Manage Training for Early Career Teachers and will send you an email with next steps.

DfE will be contacting schools in waves inviting them to begin registering their ECTs and mentors. This will begin on 16 June.

A reminder...

We know that the final half-term of the year is super busy with exams, field trips, residentials, final marking and reports - but please do support your ECTs to keep up with their self-study and mentor meetings. Following the ECT induction training programme is a key part of your school's responsibilities in employing ECTs, and we know how vital the programme is to their ongoing development.

Thank you!
