Welcome to the Julian Teaching School Hub teacher induction update for Induction Tutors.

Your progress review templates will be available on ECT Manager from 10 November, and your reviews are due for submission no later than 5 December. With almost 400 ECTs on our books this year, we need plenty of time to read your reviews so we really appreciate your efforts to get these in by the due date.

We would also, as ever, like to thank you for all you're doing to make our ECTs feel welcome and supported in the profession.

Spotlight on... Training for induction tutors

We want to make sure that induction tutors have everything they need to perform this important role. Therefore, as you will have seen when you signed our service level agreement, we offer a comprehensive training package, delivered asynchronously, so that ITs can access the most relevant content at the appropriate time for them.

The training is delivered in four parts, all taking under 20 minutes of your precious time:

  • Getting started
  • Monitoring, support, and assessment of ECTs
  • Making judgements on ECTs' progress
  • Reduction to the induction term.

Get started here.

Focus on... Progress reviews

Do:

  • Be concise rather than essay-length.

  • Be specific to the ECT being reported on.

  • Use ESI (evaluation, subject, impact) statements - e.g. “Well designed worksheets during independent tasks enhances the effectiveness of learning activities with their Year 9 class”.

  • Reference the TSs (eg TS1) with accompanying evidence.

Don't:

X Create anything new in terms of evidence.

X Rely on statement banks or AI.

X Cut and paste whole lesson observation notes.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you need any support with your progress reviews.
