Welcome

Hello! And welcome to our November newsletter, where we are AGAIN enjoying the attentions of a storm. Actual footage of us walking to school this morning:

23 Classic Hollywood GIFs That Are Better Than A Time Machine | Classic ...

We've spent the last few weeks working on clinics for our ECTs, preparing to kick off our brand new NPQ cohorts, and preparing to deliver training for our ITT partners. We do like to keep busy.

Read on for news from StepLab, an update from the MTPT project, and find out what makes a great induction tutor.

Spotlight on... More news from StepLab

  • Now that we are half-way through the term, school induction tutors may be seeing short-term absences among their mentors. In these instances, we don’t want ECTs to miss out on their coaching. Therefore, we have introduced a tag-team coaching function which allows induction tutors to step in with coaching during this period. And the great news is that this will continue to count towards engagement for the mentor being covered. Find out how by checking out the article in the News feed below.

  • We know that some of our schools on the ECT programme also use StepLab for whole-school CPD. We asked StepLab to create a guide to navigating this dual usage, and they kindly obliged. You can find it here.

Focus on... The MTPT Project

This is your periodic reminder that colleagues on a period of parental leave, returning to work or balancing their school commitments with young children can benefit from fully-funded support in 2025-26 thanks to an ongoing partnership between the Julian TSH and The MTPT Project.

The Cradle to Classroom programme offers three layers of support:

  • Group coaching during the period of parental leave.
  • Return to work workshops.
  • Group coaching for colleagues back at work with children aged 5 or younger.

This is an amazing opportunity to help colleagues remain in the profession after growing their family. Find out more here.

Focus on... What makes a great induction tutor?

Along with mentors, induction tutors are some of the unsung heroes of our profession, supporting new teachers as they find their feet in this most rewarding profession. We wanted to know what makes a great induction tutor – and what makes being an induction tutor great – so we had a chat with Ben Beebe, an experienced induction tutor at Reepham High School. You can find out his thoughts in the blog post below.
