Welcome

Hello! And welcome to this Early Career Teachers Programme newsletter.

Please read this email carefully: it contains important information.

News from Ambition Institute

"Our new programme, Leading Enhanced Provision, is here to equip you for designing and delivering targeted SEND support that suits your school.

Why this programme?

Enhanced provisions (also known as specialist resource provisions, SEN units or resource bases), can be a powerful way to improve the experience and outcomes of pupils with complex learning needs.

But in every school, enhanced provision may look different.

That’s why we brought together a community of school leaders with expertise in leading enhanced provisions, to collate the features and approaches which work best.

These insights, along with the latest available research, will guide your learning.

Across 12 months of specialist training, you will be equipped with the tools to develop the enhanced SEND provision that your school needs."

  • You have updated Manage Training for Early Career Teachers
  • You have let your Appropriate Body know.

PLEASE READ THE SECTION OF THIS EMAIL THAT CORRESPONDS TO WHEN YOU/YOUR ECT BEGAN THE PROGRAMME.

Please also check out the news items and blog posts below.

Spotlight on... Instructional coaching

We know that instructional coaching is at the very core of the ECT programme, and is vital to the learning and development of our ECTs. That's why we found this blog by Adam Boxer so compelling:

"Whilst instructional coaching is well-evidenced, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will work in the messy reality of schools, and below are a number of questions and challenges that teachers and leaders can use to judge whether it is right for their context, and indeed whether it’s all it’s cracked up to be."

Read it here.

Focus on... Ask an AB

We have compiled our popular "Ask an AB" posts into one place on our website - you can find them here.

Spotlight on... StepLab round up

We've shared a few StepLab updates over the course of the term, and thought it might be helpful to pop them all in one place:

  • We know that some of our schools on the ECT programme also use StepLab for whole-school CPD. We asked StepLab to create a guide to navigating this dual usage, and they kindly obliged. You can find it here.
  • Steplab knowledge base: Stepping in for a mentor. Find out how tag team coaching works, here.

  • Ambition Institute has let us know that induction tutors no longer receive their weekly StepLab engagement reports by default, as of September 2025. If you find these reports useful, you can still opt in - find out how here.
