Welcome

Hello Induction Tutors,

We would like to welcome our new ITs embarking on year one of the ECTP, and welcome back our veterans who are now in year two!

Please read this email carefully and save it for future reference: it contains important information.

PLEASE READ THE SECTION OF THIS EMAIL THAT CORRESPONDS TO WHETHER YOU HAVE A NEW OR RETURNING ECT.

ALL INDUCTION TUTORS

Access to StepLab

If you are a new induction tutor, you will need to complete a StepLab Access Form via MyECT in order to get started: this can be found under the Onboarding and EDI tab on MyECT. There will be a short delay between completing the form and seeing StepLab on MyECT: please be patient.

ECT and mentor matching

This is due to happen on StepLab automatically, via information sharing between the DfE service and Ambition. If your participants are not automatically matched, please get in touch with us and let us know.

Induction tutors for multiple cohorts

If you are induction tutor for multiple cohorts but can only see 2024 starters on your StepLab, please contact us – we can fix this for you. You can toggle between cohorts on StepLab via the button that looks like this:

Clinic and conference dates

For AY 2026-27, please make a note of the dates below.

Conferences: we offer a choice of dates, bookable via completing an online form. We send out the links in advance so that participants can choose the most convenient date for them/their school. Conferences are full-day, face-to-face sessions. Please note that dates, venues and booking links for the ECT and Mentor induction conferences were made available to your school at the point of registration. Joining instructions are generally sent around a week in advance.

Clinics: Clinics are twilights, delivered online.

Once sessions are assigned, participants will be able to see them on MyECT, under My Events.

All live sessions are mandatory to attend as part of this funded programme. However, if unavoidable circumstances make attendance at an event impossible, we can assign catch-up materials via StepLab.

How we will communicate with participants

We are keen to minimise communication for early career teachers as we understand the pressures on them. Therefore, apart from an email similar to this one with key information, we will aim to only send them notifications of conference booking, session joining instructions, and occasional important updates. All other communication will be via mentors and induction tutors. Since you too are busy professionals, the main way we will communicate with you will be via our half-termly newsletter, which will contain upcoming session dates and other important information. Please keep an eye out for this.

We may also get in touch if we have concerns about ECT or mentor engagement with the programme. While the programme is developmental as opposed to an assessment tool, funding is contingent upon continued engagement; we also want to know where a mentor or ECT might need extra support from us. If you know an ECT or mentor will not be able to engage with the programme for an extended period (e.g. long-term sickness or other absence), please let us know and we will pause them to prevent further unwanted communication.

Please also let us know if you need to change an ECT’s mentor. This should be recorded via the DfE online service, but if you give us a heads up, we can arrange for any catch-up training that may be needed. You can do this via this form.

Finally, our website contains a host of useful information, including pages specifically for ECTs and mentors.

How to raise a concern

We understand that we run a large number of events, both online and face to face, that may be both facilitated and attended entirely by colleagues not directly under contract with the Hub. We want our facilitators and participants to be able to let us know if something they see or hear at such an event gives rise to a concern.

Please complete this form if you have a safeguarding or other concern arising from your participation in our work. When you submit this form, an email notification will be triggered to the Operations Manager of the Teaching School Hub, who will take any necessary action, which may include contacting you for further information.

Key contacts

If you have any questions, please contact the Julian Teaching School Hub in the first instance; if we cannot resolve your query we will be able to direct it to the appropriate organisation (whether Ambition or DfE). Please email julian-tsh@ndhs.org.uk where it will be picked up by a member of our team.

You will also periodically hear from Emma Newby, ECTE Lead (enewby@ndhs.org.uk), and Susi Waters, Operations Manager (swaters@ndhs.org.uk).
