Welcome to the Julian Teaching School Hub teacher induction update for Induction Tutors and Headteachers.

We hope you managed to have a relaxing half term break, and are looking forward to a busy - but rewarding! - rest of term.

We'd like to thank you all for your continued support of the Julian Teaching School Hub, and - as ever - thank you for everything you do to welcome our early career teachers into the profession.

Read on for information about how to sign up for September; induction tutor training dates; and information abut NPQ funding for autumn 2024.

Spotlight on... Signing up for September

If you are employing an ECT starting their induction at your school in September 2024, please ensure that you complete the following steps:

  1. Choose your ECT induction programme provider and let them know that you wish to register with them - they will need to contact DfE and let them know. You can find out more about the ECF-based induction process here.
  2. Choose your Appropriate Body (AB) and let them know that you wish to register with them. From September 2024, local authorities will no longer be providing AB services. If you wish to join the Julian TSH AB, please contact us to request a service level agreement.
  3. Identify your induction tutor and make sure they have access to the DfE online service, Manage Training for Early Career Teachers. You can do that here.
  4. Register your ECT(s) and their mentor(s) on the DfE online service, Manage Training for Early Career Teachers. Your school's induction tutor should do this; they will be asked to specify your AB and your ECT induction programme provider.
  5. When your chosen AB confirms, register your ECT(s) on ECT Manager. Induction cannot begin until you have done this, and your AB has authorised the registration.

You can complete steps 1-3 now or as soon as you know you will be employing an ECT!

The DfE online service is due to open for September 2024 registrations on 24 June, so you may complete step 4 after that date.

Need to know... NPQs

In case you missed it: the DfE has announced the funding for autumn 2024 NPQs.

Funding to cover the full NPQ course cost will be available to teachers and leaders from:

  • The 50% of schools with the highest proportion of students who attract pupil premium funding
  • 16 to 19 educational settings identified as having high disadvantage.

For the early years leadership NPQ (NPQEYL), highly disadvantaged early years settings will also be eligible.

Full funding will continue to be available to all teachers and leaders from publicly funded schools and 16 to 19 educational organisations for the following NPQs:

  • Leading primary maths (NPQLPM)
  • SENCO (NPQSEND)
  • Headship (NPQH).

For the early headship coaching offer (EHCO), funding to cover the course fees will be available if you are in your first 5 years of headship in England in a state-funded school or state-funded 16 to 19 organisation. You should also be doing or have done the NPQH.

This announcement covers the autumn 2024 NPQs only. Funding for spring 2025 has yet to be announced.

If you have any questions about this announcement, including how to find out if your school or setting is eligible for funding, please contact us.
