Welcome

Hello! And a much-belated happy new (academic) year to you all! Three weeks into the new term, and we've already delivered two conferences, eleven NPQ sessions, and one subject knowledge day for SCITT trainees.

We've also welcomed 163 (and counting!) new early career teachers to our amazing profession, and read (and approved) 79 NPQ applications. Safe to say, we've hit the ground running.

If you're wondering how we've managed all that, we're delighted to let you know about some changes to our central TSH team:

Joining Sarah Bird (Acting Director of the Hub), Maya Phillips (Hub Officer), Ben Serruys (Deputy Director), and Susi Waters (Operations Manager), we welcome:

  • Kate Atkins, Acting Deputy Director
  • Lucy Hipperson, Appropriate Body Lead
  • Jenifer Tam, Teaching School Hub Officer.

You can put faces to names by clicking on the Meet the Team article below.

BREAKING NEWS!

We are thrilled to report that our Autumn cohort of the NPQ in Senior Leadership (NPQSL) is now full - we can't wait to get started later this term.

If you've missed out on a place, don't worry - we're also running a cohort in Spring, so please do apply.

And finally...

We're very excited to be partnering with two initial teacher training providers in 2023 - find out more about them by clicking on the Meet Our Partners article below.

Spotlight on... Registering for the ECT programme

We're getting lots of questions about this, so we thought we'd answer some of the more common ones.

  • We've let you know that we want to work with you and registered our participants on the DfE online service - do we also need to sign up with Ambition Institute?
    • No - this happens automatically when the DfE service detects a partnership between your school and The Julian TSH/Ambition. Your participants will receive an auto-generated email inviting them to complete their profile on the MyAmbition portal.
  • We've definitely registered on DfE, but haven't heard from Ambition - have we forgotten to do something?
    • Probably not! Make sure to check your junk or spam folders; if you still can't find the email, contact us. One of two things may have happened: the DfE service sometimes doesn't detect the partnership - we will ask Ambition to do this manually; or the email may simply have gone astray - we will ask Ambition to resend it.
  • I've had the email from Ambition, but what about StepLab? I know I need that as well - is it a different system?
    • Yes and no - once you have access to MyAmbition, you will need to complete a StepLab Access Form. This can be found under the Onboarding and EDI tab on MyAmbition. When you've completed this form, you'll get access to StepLab within 24 hours.
  • Is there training I need to do?
    • Yes, if you're new to the programme. Email us to find out what you need to do (let us know in your email if you're an induction tutor, an ECT, or a mentor).

We're sending out welcome emails as new registrations come in - these emails contain everything you need to know about the programme, so make sure you file it safely to refer back to.

Don't forget you also need to sign up to an Appropriate Body.

Focus on... NPQs

Applications close on 18 October for the autumn cohorts of the NPQ in Headship (NPQH), the NPQ in Leading Teaching (NPQLT), and the NPQ in Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD).

If you're not sure what the difference is between the LT and the LTD, or which one might be right for you, Kate Atkins breaks it down in two brilliant articles - check them out below.
