Welcome

Hello! And welcome to this Early Career Teachers Programme newsletter.

Please read this email carefully: it contains important information.

New article series: Ask an AB

We're always looking for ways to demystify the induction process, so we've begun a new series of articles called Ask an AB.

You can find the first two posts in the news feed below, in which we explain how a reduction to induction works, and bust some myths around personal support plans. Please do share these widely - they can be found in the News section of our website, easily identifiable by their own graphic.

Reminder

ECT or mentor staffing changes may affect our delivery to your school of the ECT induction programme. Please ensure that:

  • You let us know of any changes by completing this form (you will need to complete the form separately for each change you wish to make). You can complete this form at any time throughout the year.
  • You have updated Manage Training for Early Career Teachers
  • You have let your Appropriate Body know.

PLEASE READ THE SECTION OF THIS EMAIL THAT CORRESPONDS TO WHEN YOU/YOUR ECT BEGAN THE PROGRAMME.

Please also check out the news items below.

Spotlight on... the NPQLTD

The NPQ in Leading Teacher Development is ideal for ECT (or ITT) mentors looking to improve their practice and formalise what they've learned while undertaking the role.

You will learn how to implement high-quality professional development in your organisation and develop the practical capability to develop others with the skills to lead people and teams.

Don't just take our word for it - check out this article in which we hear from previous participants.

You can find out more - including information on funding and how to apply - here.

Focus on... Where to find answers to your questions

The Julian TSH website is a regularly-updated, one-stop-shop for an abundance of information on every aspect of our work, from initial teacher training to NPQs.

In particular, we strongly recommend that you direct your ECTs to the following pages:

  • Information for Early Career Teachers
  • Early Career Teachers FAQs

There's also information for mentors, and mentor FAQs.

The News pages are also updated frequently, and you can check out the news feed below.

Focus on... Great Teaching, Unpacked

Peps Mccrea and StepLab have produced a new four-part documentary capturing and deconstructing some of the best teaching in the UK. It follows a range of teachers across two schools, and features teacher interviews and expert analysis.

You can watch the trailer here, or dive straight into all four parts, here.

Clips from the Classroom, produced by the Research Schools Network, captures practitioner reflections around particular topics, from Literacy to Cognitive Science. Backed by the latest research, these bite-size videos can be used in team meetings, staff twilights and as a part of your structured professional development. Check out our very own Norfolk Research School's video exploring how to scaffold pupil talk in the primary classroom.
