Updated guidance on teaching assistants
New today from the EEF.
The EEF has published an update to its guidance on how to effectively deploy teaching assistants (TAs).
This update builds on the EEF’s previous guidance and contains five evidence-informed recommendations:
1. Deploy TAs in ways that enable all pupils to access high-quality teaching.
2. Deploy TAs to scaffold learning and to develop pupils’ independence.
3. Deploy TAs to deliver well chosen, evidence based, structured interventions where appropriate.
4. Prepare and train staff around effective TA deployment.
5. Engage all staff in the process of implementing effective TA deployment.
The report acknowledges the varied and vital role of TAs and how they can be a powerful force in uniting schools and solidifying high-quality teaching for all pupils. It’s published alongside tools and resources to help you put the recommendations into action in your school
