NEW! Updated statutory induction guidance

Updated guidance for September 2023.

This week, the Department for Education (DfE) published their revised statutory guidance on induction for early career teachers. The revised guidance will come into force on 1 September 2023.

Key changes and clarifications to be aware of:

  • From September 2023, only teaching school hubs will be able to act as appropriate bodies (ABs)
  • Local authority ABs will not be able to accept new registrations; they will, however, be able to continue as ABs for ECTs registered prior to September 2023, up until September 2024
  • ECT and mentor sessions are expected to be timetabled during teaching hours. In exceptional circumstances however where schools require flexibility due to timetabling constraints, mentoring may take place outside of teaching hours but should always be scheduled within contracted time.
